Art Course

In April 2020, my partner, Charlie and I enrolled in a course at the Art Academy in London. It was a four-week intensive course, and each Sunday we would meet for a 3.5 hour session to learn about a new material - drawing, printmaking, sculpture, and painting. It was a fantastic way to experiment with different materials and compare the type of marks and effects you could make in each medium, but to be honest each session flew by and there wasn’t enough time to make completely finished pieces. My favorite mediums were printmaking and painting. Printmaking was particularly fun because we had access to linoleum blocks and printing presses which we would never have at home. Painting was great just because it was fun just to get back into the studio and work with oils again! Sculpture was my least favorite - I found working with plaster difficult to control and I had little previous experience with it, so I found it hard to pick up in the session. However, Charlie made a great sculpture of a snail (pictured below), which now is on full display in our flat! Overall, it was fantastic getting back into the studio and I would definitely do a course again once my schedule settles down a bit.
